Irrelevant Data

The fallacy of irrelevant data depends on the use of facts and figures although perhaps true, have no real bearing on the issue. A television commercial for a certain toothpaste claims that "Three out of five of the dentists we surveyed recommended XYZ toothpaste." It sounds authoritative, but it offers no particular reason why you should use the product-that is, it does not provide premises and a valid argument to prove the value the toothpaste for your own teeth.
